Low Poly model

Here is the low poly model for my car. Because the poly limit was so low for this model , it looks pretty poor, but its be best i could do with the restrictions we were given. 500 polys is no where near enough for a car. but its only meant to be seen for a far so should be fine.

Refrence for modeling

So i had something to use as reference, i found Blueprints for the car i had chosen.

I then made image plains in maya and set about modeling to the shape in the plans.

The other elements of the car such as the plow, lights and tracks are things which i will model from the research images i found as well as from my own imagination, this way although the car will have realistic elemnts to it. it will have a styling unique to me.

car designs

This is the basic idea for my project. It's the body of a BMW M3, Snow tracks, and a plough. The plough has lights attached to it, as the normal car lights will be obscured by the plough.

Looking at modeling the chassis for an M3

Since im not great at drawing, i figured it would be best to start with the Chassis for an M3 and go from there. I have therefore found blue prints for the car and will now attempt to model the M3 minus the wheels. From here i will be able to add or remove components in order to get the desired effect.

Sketches done using Toonboom

Here is an M3 which i drew using toonboom.

I then took this side view and added tracks to see what it might look like.

I plan to make the wheel arches of the car much wider than normal to accommodate the tracks.

To plan this i will next draw a top down view.

Some images i've been looking at for design ideas

<--- This in a BMW M3 for those do not know.

In order to make the M3 into an all terrain vehicle (ATV) i decided to look into ATV's and other vehicles capable of driving on snow or difficult surfaces.

Caterpillar tracks seem to be the best way of getting grip when driving and i also really like the look.

The snow mobile pictured on the left has a styling  which i liked so i have opted to go with this style of tracks.

Using that style means i will be able to swap the wheels for tracks and still keep it looking somewhat like a car. It will also allow the front two to be free to turn. Therefore making steering for the car.

I found a guy online who actually put tracks on an impreza. see below.

I will use this as refrence and try and get mine to look similar, although i would like the M3 styling to be the main styling on the vehicle. and use a metqlic blue like the road car.

Level 2 Animation

This term we have been given two design projects.

I have given a page to each ------------------------->
