3d Printout

Now i had a new model i was able to get it printed.

unfortunately the high poly one had too many errors which netfabb couldn't fix so i had to use a lower poly model.

However I'm still happy with what i ended up with.

Here is the model that i had printed.

3d Model Pictures

After the problems i had with my old file, i ended up having to remake the model in order to have something to print.

Here are a few renders of the final thing. it didnt end up as good the original one I had before the file corrupted, but it came out ok.

Problems with my scene file.

When i tried to open my final scene file i now get an error message, and it wont load properly.

Here is the model before the scene crashes.

As you can see an error message pops up then maya closes straight away.

Level of detail is on as you can see from the layers box
<----

Its only the file with the high poly model that is being a problem, i have the other two models separate.

Rendered Model

Here are renders of my final  high poly model. It is just just about under the 5000 poly limit model i've added lights to the front to try and replicate  real headlights.

Because the poly limit was so low the model looks really blocky and basic. but it is the best i could do with the restrictions that were set.
Ive used a glass texture on the windows. and chrome on the metal parts. the body is a metallic blue.
These textures were made using mental ray and playing with specular and colour.
The tracks have a tyre tread texture applied to them to try and make them look like real rubber.

Overall i'm reasonably satisfied with the out come given the poly limit restrictions.

If there was no limit i would have been able to make an almost perfect looking model. I learned a technique for making a car using nurb curves.  This was from a tutorial here: http://www.carbodydesign.com/tutorials/3d/maya-tutorials/ there were several to choose from. i looked at all of them and used parts from each to make the model in a way i was happy with. in particular the one on how to model the alfa romeo was very helpful to me and gave me the basics needed to make my model.

One good thing to take from this project is the fact that i now know how to make a car, which i didnt before. I will be making one of my own, but i will not have a really low limit for myself. i will have no limit and therefore can make it look as nice as possible. Also i will have experience of making this one to help me with the processes and workflow in order to achieve a nice looking car model.

This last one is the medium poly model. and i have added a snow looking texture to the floor. to try and help it look better.

High poly model and medium poly model

Here is the high poly model.

I useed nurbs to make the shape of the car. i then converted them to polys.

I then used the duplicate special to make the other half of the model.

Here is the medium model.
